Summer Lawn Treatments

During the summer, we are both spot treating for weeds and fertilizing.  You will need to water in each lawn treatment within 5 days of the application.  Also, you will want to water before mowing, unless you are mulching..

Watering Your Lawn

To achieve a healthy green lawn, the goal is one inch of water per week.  It is best to water in the morning, if possible.  If you have a sprinkler system, we recommend setting it to 45 minutes per zone, 2-3 times per week.  If you do not have a sprinkler system, an old-fashioned sprinkler will achieve the same results.  (You may need to water your flower beds more often.)

Pet Owners

We have a flea and tick program for the lawn the works well.  We apply the application twice, 10-14 days apart.  On my own yard, we have two dogs that stay outside, live next to a field and a creek.  We normally treat our own yard in late spring/early summer when we first see the pesky flea and ticks.  Some years,we need to treat our lawn again at the end of the summer/early fall.  We are available to treat your yard anytime you have problems with fleas and ticks.  Just give the office a call at 794-LAWN, and Rick will set you up for a flea and tick application.

Grubs

In the summer, adult beetles are drawn to well-watered lawns for egg laying.  Larvae hatch and feed on grass roots, with damage usually appearing in mid-August and possibly continuing through the fall.  (Grubs look like white worms. Moles, skunks, and birds often dig for the larvae/grubs and also damage the lawn.)

Grub damage appears as brown areas in the lawn and when enough feeding damage has occurred, lawns may fell squishy and may be rolled up like carpeting.  Unfortunately, there is no way to predict whether you will have grubs.  Once you notice grub damage, the damage is already wide spread.

The best treatment is a preventative treatmet.  We apply grub treatments in July.  Please call the office at 794-LAWN if you would like to be scheduled for a grub treatment.  The grub treatment is approximately double your reguar lawn application price. After spending all year to have your lawn look its best, it is very upsetting if you get grubs because the damage is often so extensive.  Personally, I strongly recommend a grub preventative treatment as it is well worth the peace-of-mind.

Overseeding

We will begin overseeding lawns starting the first of October.  If you have large trees or shaded areas that prevent grass from growing, you would benefit from overseeding.  Please call the office by Oct 1, if possible, and we can come out and give you an estimate.
