NOW is the best time to start a lawn care program!

Many think of lawn care in the early spring when weeds begin to pop up, but Fall/Early Winter is the ideal time to start a lawn care program so that you recieve all three of the pre-emergents before weeds have an opportunity to germinate and spread.

Pre-Emergents

We will start spraying the first of a series of 3 pre-emergents in October. All three pre-emergents are crucial to ensuring a weed-free lawn next spring.

Pre-emergents should be watered in within 14 days and before you mow (unless you mulch).

Pre-emergents will not harm your pets.

Watering Your Lawn

Even though the temperaturs have dropped as it is now fall, and soon going into early winter, we still need to water our lawns. To maintain a healthy lawn, the goal is one inch of water per week. It is best to water 2-3 times per week to promote a deep root system.

Overseeding

If you have bare spots in your yard due to an area receiving too much shade, possibly from large trees or other structures, overseeding would be a good option for these areas. We overseed in the fall to give the new grass plenty of time to get established before the hot summer months. If you are intersted in receiving an estimate, please call the office or send us an email.

Lawns need 1 inch of water per week. In general, we recommend setting your irrigation systems to 25-30 minutes per zone, 2-3 times per week. During the intense heat of July/August you may need to increase these times. But, it is always better to give your lawn a long soaking a couple of times a week, rather than watering your lawn everyday for 10 minutes.

 Grubs

Grub damage often appears in late summer/early fall as brown areas in the lawn. If extensive damage has occurred, lawns may fell squishy and may be rolled up like carpeting. The best treatment is a preventative treatment, applied in June.

We will begin spraying round 2 this week. (For new customers, we will continue to spray round 1 until the end of March/first week of April.) Rounds 1 and 2 are both pre-emergents that will keep those pesky broadleaf weeds from coming up in the spring and summer. Both rounds are crucial to providing the beautiful lawn that everyone desires come summer time.

Pre-emergents

During the spring the top priority is a pre-emergent to keep that pesky crabgrass from coming up in the first place. My program consists of 3 pre-emergents (one in the fall/winter and two in late winter/ spring. )

Pre-emergents should be watered in within 14 days and before you mow (unless you mulch). This time of year, in the OKC metro area, we have been receiving plenty of rain, so just wait a few days and mother nature will water it in for you.

Watering Your Lawn

To achieve a healthy green lawn, the goal is one inch of water per week. If you have a sprinkler system, I recommend setting it to 45 minutes per zone, twice per week. If you do not have a sprinkler system, an old fashioned sprinkler will work just fine. Water each area for 45 minutes, twice per week.
